Blue Flag

The international beach and marina recognition program, Blue Flag, awards segments that meet high standards of quality and create the necessary conditions for the sustainable and comprehensive management of beaches. It also establishes environmental education programs with visitors and communities to raise awareness of the preservation and conservation of coastal-marine spaces worldwide.

Internationally, the program is coordinated by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), and in the country, it is overseen by the Institute of Environmental Law of the Dominican Republic (IDARD). Annually, a National Jury composed of 11 public and private institutions, including the Ministries of Environment, Tourism, Education, Public Health, ASONAHORES, National Aquarium, CIBIMA, Civil Defense, CONADIS, the National Competitiveness Council, and Fundación Propagas, evaluates the national segments vying for the award. Once national nominations are approved, they are submitted to the International Jury of the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE).
